Restoration Details

This unit was meticulously restored by Marblehead Audio in July of 2023. All electrolytic capacitors have been replaced, including the large off board coupling and main capacitors

We used either Wima Film (for 4.7uf or smaller) or Nichicon & Panasonic electrolytic capacitors. We exclusively use low ESR or low leakage, high-quality electrolytic capacitors. Wima film caps are an upgrade over the original electrolytic capacitors providing superior sound and virtually unlimited life. The coupling capacitors were replaced with high quality 3300uf 63v United Chem-Con capacitors. Similarly, the main capacitor was replaced with a Kemet 4700uf 80v capacitor.

All capacitors are of equal or (in most cases) increased voltage. A select few filter capacitors were increased in capacitance to provide better bass and transient response.

A number of known problematic transistors were also replaced. Not all transistors were replaced, nor should they be. We replace only those that are known problems since production of the 1060.

Similar to the transistors, we replaced a few select diodes.

We replaced the original audio adjustment trimming resistors with high quality new Bourns trimmers. These trimmers allow for dialing in the audio adjustments to precision which we did upon completion of the restoration process.

All switches, pots, fuses, push button and other non-soldered connection points (rca inputs, speaker connections, etc) were treated with Caig products.

Cosmetics

This 1060 came to us in almost flawless physical condition. There are two very faint scratches on the faceplate near the lettering stating “console.” The bonnett, rear panel and all other areas are flawless as is the lettering on the faceplate.

We thoroughly cleaned the unit inside and out.

Description

The Marantz 1060 is a stereo console amplifier featuring three line inputs, one phono input and a tape loop.

The amplifier section is split into pre and power sections which can split for use with an external processor.

The unit has two sets of switchable sockets for main/remote speakers.
